The 2000-01 season was the longest on record, starting in September, due to the Sydney Olympics.
In 2000-01 season, the club pushed ahead with the new building (despite limited resources) with the erection of steel wall and roof framing and the commencement of blockwork. Special recognition must go to two special women, local residents, who assisted the club financially during this period.
During 2001-02, two boat crews have competed very successfully for the club, recording numerous carnival wins. Both reached the State finals, with the Open crew finishing within the top 8 crews in the National titles. The number of awards obtained by members has yet to be tallied, but full details will be available in the club’s annual report.
In 2001-02, the club fielded its second women’s crew, swept by Ross Jorgenson which was successful in winning the NSW Championships. Thanks to Gordon Wooler, Bungan competed for the first time in IRB racing, placing 3rd overall at the Branch titles, and was awarded the “Most Improved Club” by the Branch.
Col Rae and Ross Jorgenson were awarded the Australian Sports Medal, and two members became the first to obtain their Gold Medallion awards. Life membership was awarded to Robert Richardson in recognition of his overall contribution to the club during the previous 12 years.
The current season 2000-01, has seen the building completed to lockup stage, although repayment of an interest free loan is still outstanding.
